Endoscopic facelift:This method is a surgical technique that has many advantages in surgeries such as eyebrow lifting and forehead lift. Is facelift surgery alone sufficient?

Physical examination, blood and hormone tests
Before the facelift surgery, the needs of the patient are determined and a personalized design and application plan is prepared for each patient. First of all, the facial anatomy of the patient is evaluated by performing a physical examination. At this stage, the patient's wishes and whether these requests are feasible are analyzed. As a result of this analysis, face lift surgery is planned in line with the recommendations made to the patient.
Before the Face Lift Surgery, a series of tests are performed to determine whether the patient is suitable for the surgical operation. In these examinations, the patient's blood and hormone values are checked to see if there is a condition that prevents surgery.
However, before the Face Lift Surgery, you must inform your surgeon whether you have a genetic or hereditary disease or disease, all the medications you use, and whether you have had a surgical intervention before.
If it is decided that there is no harm in taking the patient into surgery, the preparation and planning phase is started.
Considerations before face lift surgery
The most important point to be considered before the operation is; Avoid taking blood thinners (aspirin, coraspirin, baby aspirin, coumadin, ibuprofen, various painkillers, etc.) and vitamins (vitamin E and similar) at least 1 week before facelift surgery, as it increases the risk of bleeding, and blood thinning foods (garlic, red pepper, turmeric, cherry, kiwi etc.) and herbal teas are not consumed. Medicines that do not pose any inconvenience or risk in use will be indicated by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you when you can use regular diabetes and blood pressure medications.
Since smoking, cigarettes and pipes, and alcohol use negatively affect the recovery process after the surgery, it should be stopped at least 3 weeks before the facelift surgery. Since tobacco products and alcohol impair healthy blood circulation, they negatively affect the healing and success of facelift surgery. However, if you continue to use tobacco products and alcohol, the general anesthesia required for the surgery will put you in a higher risk group.
Tobacco products and alcohol should be avoided during the recovery period after surgery.
In addition, hair dyeing in men and women is restricted for 1 month after surgery. It is recommended that patients dye their hair before facelift surgery.
Make-up, gel and hair spray should not be used on the day of the surgery.
If you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant, please inform your doctor about this situation.
If you have an allergy sensitivity or if you know which drugs you are allergic to, please inform your doctor about this.
If you have an allergy sensitivity or if you know which drugs you are allergic to, please inform your doctor about this.
How is face lift surgery performed?
Facelift surgery is performed in hospital conditions, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, mostly in the operating room under general anesthesia. However, local anesthesia and sedation can be used for some surgeries such as mini facelifts.
Your plastic surgeon, Op.Dr. Mehmet KÖKSAL will remove the excess sagging skin on your face, pull the remaining skin to the ears and upwards, bring it to a new position and stitch it from the appropriate areas. The incisions made in facelift surgery are generally as follows; above the hairline, in front and behind the ear and under the earlobe. If the chin is to be lifted, small incisions are also made under the chin.
After incisions are made on the skin, it is descended under the skin to a certain depth. By maintaining this level, the skin and subcutaneous tissues are stripped of the layer on which they are adhered. The stripped subcutaneous tissues are brought to the position of the patient at a young age. Excess skin is removed to create a younger face. The excess facial skin is laid to fit over the soft tissues that have been brought into their new positions.
Fat injections are also usually performed in face lift surgeries. The adipose tissue taken from the patient's body and purified is given to the midface, nose lines, around the eyes, lip lines, Marionette lines (wrinkles that go down from the two corners of the lips along the chin level). If necessary, oil is injected into the lips.
The incisions are closed using the appropriate type of sutures so that the surgical scars are not visible, and a light face wrap is applied. If the doctor deems it appropriate, the patient can be discharged from the hospital on the day of the operation or the next day.
Since a surgical procedure is applied to the entire face, a general swelling and bruising, numbness and tension may occur in the face area after the surgery. In the healing process, the stitches are removed after five to seven days, depending on the patient's condition. Facelift is not a scarless surgery. However, the scars that may occur after the surgery are not visible as they are hidden in areas such as hair and behind the ear.
Facelift surgery usually takes two to three hours, depending on the technique to be applied and the width of the surgery. The more additional surgical procedures to be performed with facelift surgery, the longer the operation time may be.
Considerations after face lift surgery
Recovery time after facelift surgery differs according to the patient's age, body resistance and recovery speed. The type of surgery performed, the amount of operation performed and the area involved also affect the recovery time of the patients. Considerations after facelift surgery:
- Ice should be applied to the face area to minimize post-operative swelling, bruising and similar undesirable effects, which contributes positively to the healing process. During this application, it is important not to wet the seam lines and to keep them dry. During the post-operative day, cold application should be applied to the face area with an interval of one to two hours and for 15-20 minutes each time. Ice may not be applied in the following days.
- Medicines recommended by your surgeon should be used regularly.
- Since it will adversely affect the healing of the suture area, bathing should not be done strictly in the first days (at least two days), the suture lines should not be wetted and should be kept dry. However, activities such as steam bath and sauna should be strictly avoided. However, it is possible to take a shower or bath so that the water does not come to the suture lines.
- Post-operative pain can be controlled with simple painkillers recommended by your doctor.
- Do not lie face down as it may damage the sutures and facial tissue.
- As much as possible, the head should be kept high by lying on the back.
- Putting more pillows under the head while sleeping will reduce the pressure on the face and swelling that may occur, and help a more comfortable sleep.
- If your pain is too much, this may be a sign of undesirable results. In this case, contact your doctor immediately.
- Swelling and bruises that will occur after the surgery will decrease within a week or two and disappear to a large extent within two to three weeks. However, it may take a month or two for these swelling and bruises to completely disappear.
- Blood thinning pain relievers (aspirin, coraspirin, baby aspirin, coumadin, ibuprofen, various painkillers, etc.) that increase the risk of bleeding should not be used. You can use pain relievers (paracetamol, acetaminophen, dipyrone, etc.) that your doctor will recommend.
- Only the drugs prescribed by your doctor should be used, especially after the surgery. After removing the face dressing, ointments containing antibiotics and acting as emollients should be applied over the suture lines twice a day. During this procedure, the skin should be treated gently.
- After the facelift surgery, your face should not be exposed to direct sunlight during the first six months. When going out in a sunny environment, it is necessary to protect the face from the harmful rays of the sun by wearing a hat. Patients should definitely use creams with high sun protection factor.
- For at least three weeks following the surgery, heavy activities such as all kinds of training, exercise, housework, and intense sports activities that require intense physical strength should be avoided and rest should be taken. You can usually return to your work and social life after the second week following the surgery.
- Facial movements (such as laughing, laughing) that will stretch the suture line and long conversations should be avoided for a week or two following the surgery.
- Foods that tire the mouth or are difficult to chew should be avoided during the healing process. In order to reduce the formation of edema, it will be beneficial to limit salt for at least a month and to eat the meals with a little salt.
- Make-up should not be applied for two weeks following the surgery. However, if necessary, you should apply make-up with light and sensitive touches to your skin and gently comb your hair.
- In order to remove the blood and fluid accumulations that may occur under the skin after the operation, the tube called “drain” is placed in the operation area and must be kept for at least one day. The next day, when the risk of bleeding disappears, the drain in the operation area is removed.

Facelift surgery carries the potential risks inherent in a normal surgical operation. Complications that can be seen, albeit rare, during or after surgery are as follows: bleeding, scarring on the face, infection, hair loss, nerve damage and numbness.
Although rare, bleeding may occur during or after facelift surgery. This bleeding is generally not life-threatening and can be stopped with simple interventions to the patient. In very rare cases, it may require advanced intervention.
Infection is one of the rare undesirable conditions (Complications) after facelift surgery. After the surgery, inflammation (infection) may develop as a result of catching germs in and around the seams. However, as a result of performing the surgery in a sterile environment by a specialist surgeon and using antibiotics, infection is a complication seen less than 1% of the time.
In order to prevent infection, the necessary hygienic environment should be provided by the patients or their relatives after the operation, and the cleaning of the wounds should be given importance.
Although rare, hair loss may occur in the temple and the area behind the ear. However, in most of such cases, it has been observed that hair grows back in the lost area after a few months.
There may be malnutrition and skin loss in the incision areas of the skin. Spotting, redness, small wounds, and veins may appear on the skin in the operation area.
It has been reported that less than 1% of facial nerve damage occurs during the facelift surgery, albeit very slightly. Depending on this loss, although very rarely, some patients may experience difficulty in wrinkling the forehead, a feeling of weakness in the eyelids, and a feeling of weakness in the corner of the mouth. However, facial muscle weakness is usually expected to improve within a few months after surgery. However, although rare, there is a possibility that nerve damage may be permanent.
There are different types of facelifts you can choose from, based on your aesthetic goals, facial anatomy, and preferences for healing and associated risks. They tend to vary with the type of incision (incisions made in the body to perform surgical procedures), the number of tissue layers treated, the facial area targeted, and the degree of invasiveness (harmful tissue formations that grow if left untreated).
